Frequently Asked Questions

How do your “made to order” products work?

Each of my creations is thoughtfully designed and handmade using recycled and found materials. This means that each piece is one-of-a-kind, and not perfectly reproducible. This is what we love about art!

When you order from my shop, you can expect that what I create for you will be similar to the general design in the photos for the listing, but the exact details and colors will be a surprise, informed by the materials that I choose from my stash, and my creative inspiration.

In my shop listing, you can specify a general color palette, but if you want to give me more specific guidance such as a favorite or specific color, your favorite among the photos, or a general aesthetic/vibe, you can add those comments during check out. I will do my best to incorporate any notes or direction that you give me, but ultimately will follow my creativity as my guide.

Please be patient and allow the time it takes for me to create your special friend. I work slowly, and time pressure kills my joy of making and creativity. I ask for 2-3 weeks between receiving your order and it arriving in your hands.

Why is your work so expensive?

I take my time with each of my creations, using my materials creatively and with thoughtful attention to detail. As a result, each piece that I create is one-of-a-kind, and takes many hours to make. It is important to me that whoever receives my work be able to feel the hands and the heart that made it.

This specialness cannot be optimized for efficiency, and so my work is priced much higher than efficient, factory made goods. There is no assembly line here, just a creative lady cutting out individual shapes with scissors, sewing details by hand, and taking over her kitchen table with fabric and her sewing machine.

Buying my art means choosing to value slow, skilled work and small makers over large scale, heartless production of goods. 🪡 💝

Do You Accept Returns/Refunds?

Yes. If you don’t completely adore your friend (although I suspect that you will) 😉 I am happy to take it back and offer it at one of my in-person markets for someone else to fall in love with. I can offer a full refund, however, you will be responsible for the cost of shipping it back to me.

Where can i find your work in person?

I vend on occasion at in-person markets and shops around Bellingham, Washington. The best way to stay in the loop is to follow me on instagram where I post my market schedule, or subscribe to my e-mail list.

What does “upcycled” mean?

“Upcycling” means recycling old, discarded things to create something new and wonderful, which helps to divert waste from landfills. To create my creatures and dolls, I use primarily reclaimed or thrifted wool and cashmere, worn clothing, recycled polyfill, and other found materials.
